George S. Willie Appointed Chair, AICPA PCPS Executive Committee Serving as Chair for a Three Year Term

WASHINGTON, D.C. – October 1, 2012 – George S. Willie, managing partner of Certified Public Accountants and Management Consults will serve a three-year term as Chair of the American Association of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) PCPS Executive Committee. As the national, professional organization for Certified Public Accountants, the AICPA strives to provide resources, leadership and tools in support of the accounting professionals who serve the public.

The Private Companies Practice Sector (PCPS) Executive committee is charged specifically with adding value to local practices as a conduit between the AICPA/PCPS staff and current practitioners on relevant accounting issues. The PCPS was originally formed in 1977 in response to a government call for additional regulation of the accounting profession. Over thirty later, the direction of their work has changed with the demands of the marketplace. CPA firms are increasing their scopes of work to include more value-added consulting. As a result, the PCPS has decreased its emphasis on self-regulation and today is focused on providing practical tools and resources to elevate the success of CPA firms. James Castellano, former Chair of the AICPA and the PCPS Committee, noted “PCPS is the profession’s advocate for small- and medium-sized CPA firms. From representing our interests with standard setters to providing invaluable practice management resources, our investment in PCPS membership has returned great benefits.”

The Executive Committee will strive to continue the strong sense of community for its membership. The core goals of these efforts will be providing management tools and resources available to the members via the website and representation and a voice for both local and regional firms. As newly elected Chair of the PCPS Executive Committee, George Willie states, “As a long-time managing partner of a large-sized firm in Washington, D.C., I have been involved with PCPS and with the Executive Committee for many years. The core of the PCPS mission is to help our member firms be more successful through education and advocacy. I’m excited about working with the executive committee, the AICPA/PCPS team and our members to achieve those goals.”
