The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, founded in 1887, is the world's largest association representing the accounting profession, with nearly 377,000 members in 128 countries. AICPA members represent many areas of practice, including business and industry, public practice, government, education and consulting; membership is also available to accounting students and CPA candidates. The AICPA sets ethical standards for the profession and U.S. auditing standards for audits of private companies, non-profit organizations and federal, state and local governments. It develops and grades the Uniform CPA Examination.

The Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center is a firm-based voluntary membership Center designed to help CPAs meet the challenges of performing quality ERISA audits. Membership in the Center allows Bert Smith to access the most current guidance, literature and training tools that are required in the rapidly changing audit and compliance environments.

The Governmental Audit Quality Center (GAQC) promotes the importance of performing quality governmental assurance engagements, provides valuable guidance and assist firms in enhancing the value of audits for the users of governmental financial statements. GAQC is a voluntary membership center for CPA firms and state audit organizations that perform governmental engagements.
